The river Verdon

Even amongst the undeniable beauty of Autumn in Provence, I can’t help but be drawn to the power and the symbolism of a river.

Picking a wandering route West through Southern France, I ate a lunch by the Verdon. I’d say a quiet lunch, but the roaring of the water meant it was anything but. I gazed long into the churning current.

Rivers can represent life and fertility. Rivers are also metaphors for journeys and for change, and the River Styx is the mythical boundary between what is known in this world, and what is unknown in the next.

There's a few things you can ponder next time you fall into the hypnotic spell of a mighty river.
