The Rock of Castellane
I doubt you’ll find the village of Castellane as a headline attraction on any travel guides of Europe, but only because there are simply so many other amazing secrets like it to be found in Southern France.
Stumbling unannounced across places like this is my idea of a perfect holiday. I could only sit and wonder at how many battles and sieges have raged at the base of the towering Rock of Castellane, and still today a tiny chapel sits at the top, getting that little bit closer to God.
Meanwhile down below, the stone bridge once carried the armies of Napoleon himself on his campaigns across Europe.
