Lofty Valley

When the colonial artists arrived on Australian shores they gasped in wonder at the clarity and strength of the light. Our summer sun cuts through with piercing colours and dramatic black  shadows, which overwhelmed the European trained landscapists.

Photographers feel it too. We get excited by high contrast, bold shapes and saturated tones. We create images with the vigour and intensity of youth that reflects our new-world spirit.

Just as the colonials once delighted in the ‘new’, when I was gifted this soft misty scene I delighted in the ‘old’. I felt more like a JM Turner, painting the gentle atmosphere of England, than a photographer on our own Mount Lofty.
